The Grand Reopening of Washington Park
Washington Park‘s ribbon cutting ceremony and grand reopening yesterday was a resounding success. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people braved the 100°+ heat and enjoyed a beautiful day of fun in the sun and shade – at the dog park, around the bandstand, reclining on cool grass under old growth trees, playing in the children’s playground, on the civic lawn, and in the musical fountains.
The park will host regularly scheduled events such as Bandstand Bluegrass, Jazz in the Park, Friday Flow, Dog Programs at the dog park, Curiosity Saturdays, Date Nights, Cincinnati Sports Kickball League and the monthly City Flea curated urban flea markets. Other upcoming special events include the Over the Rhine’s free concert on the Civic Lawn July 22, the rare free joint performance by the Cincinnati Pops, May Festival, Cincinnati Opera, and Cincinnati Ballet that has been dubbed “A Performance Unlike Any Other” August 3, and the Cincinnati Celtic Festival September 15-16. Washington Park will also serve as a venue for the 2012 MidPoint Music Festival September 27-29.
